NanoWrimo

Just a small question,
Does anyone know what NanoWrimo is, well I have figured that out. But can anyone tell me more in depth about it? is anyone going to participate or has participated in the past?

Please anyone with information that is willing to discuss it, I am begging for your knowledge. 80)

I did it last year.

Bascially, Nanowrimo is short for National Novel Writing Month and goes from 12am November 1st til 12am November 30th. In that time, you have to write 50, 000 words in the form of a fictional story. The emphasis is not on editing or sentence structure but on just getting the writing down and meeting the required word limit.

It's actually a pretty good excercise in writing because most writers have an internal editor that makes them go back and rewrite so many times that they never end up getting past chapter one!!

I hope that sheds a bit of light on what Nanowrimo is.

Generally, you sign up for it from the beginning of October. They have a website at: http://www.nanowrimo.org/

I know someone at TSR who did it, she said it was a great exercise. It is as ysbal describes, the lady at TSR asked me to sign up, but I was away all of November and I am going to be this year, too.

Sounds like a good, structured way to try and get down some words!
Thinking of trying it out, Cherie?

If you visit that website Cherie they pretty well explain everything. I was interested until I learned about the time limit thing, when I write I want it to be good not have someone tell me how long I have to write. So to me personally it seems limiting, but for someone who's struggling with getting the words out- a good idea. Personally I think you are above doing it, unless you just wanted the experience. :)

But hey, just my opinion, I believe it's free so if you want to try it out, go for it!

I did try it once, but November is way too busy for me, so I never finished. You have to write 50000 words in 30 days. it doesn't matter if it is good... it is about quantity not quality, so it is a great exercise.

If it was any other month I will probably do it again. but No way I have that amount of time in November.

It gets really busy here since I am away all December. If you have time , you should give it a try!!!

Ysbal already covered everything I was going to say. It's a blast, I loved it, and I won it last year. Planning on doing it this year, too.

It's incredibly easy, if you're a quick writer. You don't have to have oodles of time to write something amazing.

Thank you everyone!

I dont know really I have alot of people at work and I have my husband telling me to do it for exactly that reason. GIVE IT A TRY, PUSH YOURSELF! LOL

So I have been pouring over the web page and Faqs trying to figure out if I want to...

For me sometimes I need the opinions of those who have thought about or tried it. I guess it would be product review, LOL!

I just dont know yet, LOL! I am so busy as is, and I am sure I would be able to get something out.... But I would be up until 1 am every night and have to get up 6. Sorry rambling on here, 80) So if I do I wont post at all on my blog during Nov. and probably not december either, because I'd be recouping and catching up on sleep. LOL!

Although I was initially planning on taking a month off after I posted Butterfly's Ball, 80P because I am neglecting the story I want to submit to a publisher. Poor baby, LOL! and figured with all the crazy twists and turns out of my head, (Alex is very demanding and so is AvA) LOL!!! I could get some writing done one this one. But may have to wait if I do this...

Once again thank you all and I will let everyone know what I decide.

Go on, you should give it a try. The worst that can happen is that you find you really don't have the time, and stop halfway. But if you don't start you'll never know, right?

I have never done this, but two days ago, I signed up and am planning on doing it this year. The reason is that I have this story that's been going round and round in my head for ages now, but I never seem to get around to sit down and actually write it, what with work, my two sims stories, RL and all. So I decided that for the month of November I will take a break from my blog, and for 30 days just concentrate on getting this story written - at least the basics of it.

I don't know if I will actually be able to finish it in time or not - but I would have written some it.

Thank you Lorianne, I am thinking about it. Just wondering if I can get something to come up. LOL!

It took me two years to write butterfly. Over the same reason, of work and RL. Who knows, my family and co-workers are all telling me to do it...

Saozinha  – (9/29/2008 8:39 PM)

I did it last year for the first time, and I, too, won. :) As others have said, it's a great writing exercise at the very least. It is helpful, though, if you go in with a general idea for a book. I came up with my idea the day before it started (like you, I wasn't sure if I was going to try it), and some of the days were hard going. This year I play to have a loose outline at the very least!

cheripye  – (9/29/2008 11:59 PM)

I am seriously considering it, still very unsure though. I have so much going on, especially with all the family gatherings etc.

Knowing me I will probably make a last minute decision, LOL!

Thanks for your input Saoz, 80)
